Suggested Packing List

Make sure all items are marked with your child's name. Only old clothes are needed.
New clothes may be ruined by heavy outdoor use. Socks and appropriate shoes are probably the most important items.
**Bring your own water bottle with your NAME clearly marked on it.
PACKING CHECKLIST (Suggested Items and Quantity):
OPTIONAL ITEMS:
● small day pack (keeps your hands free when hiking)
● camera (digital or disposable)
● flashlight
● stamped self-addressed envelopes, pen and writing paper
PLEASE DO NOT SEND:
● no drinks, candy, gum, or food of any kind
● knives, hatchets, or any other weapon
● fireworks
● radio, music or video devices, electronic games, cell phones, or any other electronics.
● MONEY (except to buy camp souvenir products. Hats, shirts, logos.)
The Blue Ridge Outdoor Education Center is not responsible for articles left behind
RAFTING: Helmets, life jackets, and wetsuits will be provided. You must bring shoes that can get wet and stay on your feet (no flip flops or crocs), a bathing suit, sunscreen, and a bag to carry wet clothes in. Bring wool socks, synthetic clothing, an optional wool sweater or fleece to put on after rafting.

- 1 sleeping bag or bed roll (i.e. sheets and 2 blankets), and pillow
- 1 pair of old jeans per day
- 1 pair of shorts per day
- 2 t-shirts per day
- 1 heavy shirt (1 per day in cold weather)
- 1 sweater or sweatshirt
- 1 warm jacket (cold weather)
- 2 pairs of sneakers (one that can get wet). All footwear MUST have a toe box and a secure heel strap
- 1 change of underwear per day
- 2 pairs of socks per day
- 1 raincoat or poncho
- 1 hat or cap
- 1 pair of pajamas
- toilet articles (soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothbrush and toothpaste, towels and washcloth etc.)
- sunscreen and insect repellant
- water bottle (a refillable, reusable bottle— not the throw-away kind) with your name on it.
